"Nothing Runs Like A Deere"

This page is for the purpose of keeping a log of my hobby.  As most of you know by this point, one of my favorite things to do on my days off is to tackle some small project with the help of my tractor.  It may seem odd to some of you who knew me as a banker that I would enjoy this type of pastime; but those who know me best will attest to the fact that I have always enjoyed equipment of any size, and have always been eager to reduce the personal effort I needed to exert in order to complete a given task.  This is one of those areas, I think, where progress can be made in such a way that it seems like "playing" along the way.

After much deliberation and ROI calculations, I bit the bullet and purchased a Frontier 48" box blade from Greenway Equipment in Bangor.  I could have gone to the one in Ellsworth, but the 48" size was in Bangor.  Besides, I prefer to work with Jeremy anyway, as he has been very helpful when it comes to usage and best practices along the way.  It was time I threw him a bone, as it were.

The ripper shanks work wondrously well as I immediately proceeded to completely mutilate my driveway.  I dug up far more rocks than I removed, leading me to believe that I need to either pull in from the sides, or have more gravel brought in.  Since it is cheaper to get it from the sides, that will be my objective when I have a few moments to spare.

I also took a few moments to grade my "lawn", or at least where my lawn will be as soon as the weather warms enough to seed it.  I'm glad I went with the 48" since a wider one would have been more cumbersome than I wanted.  I'm also glad I went with the Frontier (John Deere implement brand) instead of the cheaper County Line from Tractor Supply.  My research tells me that within 2 years of a new Tractor Supply opening, their implement sales drop by 80%.  That can't be a sign of quality products!
